The Care Standards Act
The Care Standards Act, which covers all aspects of regulation and standards in the independent healthcare sector, is now out for consultation.
Details can be obtained from www.doh.gov.uk/ncsc/independenthealthcareregs.pdf
Comments can be made by the 16 October 2001 and the LCA is considering a response. In general the LCA welcomes this document and endorses the proposals.

The LCA has
always stood for the highest possible standards in the independent
sector and thus welcomes the general proposals. It is hoped, in
particular, that there will be an end to the varied way in which
acute private hospitals have been regulated in the past by different
bodies, often with extra demands from insurers, and that a unified
approach will now be adopted.
